• Radiography (X-RAY)
  Radiography utilizes radiation to quickly and easily produce images of structures inside the body. Radiography is particularly important in imaging your bones but is also used to diagnose disease processes in the lungs and abdomen. The KDH radiology department houses the most sophisticated medical imaging technology to quickly deliver accurate digital images to physicians. The enhanced digital imaging has many advantages over traditional x-ray units including providing a more detailed image with lower radiation dose in a shorter amount of time in a comfortable and compassionate setting.
   

• Computed Tomography (CT)
  Formerly known as a “CAT” scan, Computed Tomography uses X-rays to take cross sectional images of the body and recreate them to produce 2 dimensional images. Most scans only take a few minutes and may require oral or intravenous contrast agents to enhance the organs within the body. Our CT scanner at KDH is one of the lowest dose scanners on the market and provides our doctors with high quality enhanced images to better diagnose possible abnormalities within the body.
   

• Bone Densitometry (DEXA)
  Bone Densitometry is a test that requires a small dose of radiation to measure bone mineral density and aids in the diagnosis of osteoporosis. Loss of calcium leads to the development of osteoporosis, making bones fragile and more susceptible to fractures. Bone density exams are suggested for women over the age of 65 and men over the age of 70.
   

• Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
  Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses a magnetic field and radiofrequency pulses to produce detailed images of body structures in multiple planes. IV contrast may be utilized to enhance structures depending on the type of exam. MRI is a more detailed tool than X-ray, CT and ultrasound for certain organs and areas of the body such as tendons, nerves and muscles. An MRI is not recommended to those who have a pacemaker or other metal implants. Exams are offered once a week at the hospital by a mobile MRI service.
   

• Ultrasound
  Ultrasound imaging is a common diagnostic medical procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images (sonograms) of organs, tissues, or blood flow inside the body. The procedure involves using a transducer, which sends a stream of high-frequency sound waves into the body and detects their echoes as they bounce off internal structures. The sound waves are then converted to electric impulses, which are processed to form an image displayed on a computer monitor. Each exam requires different preparation which will be explained at the time of scheduling and are performed every Wednesday.
   

• Image Interpretation
  Kiowa District Hospital sends all images to a radiologist to be interpreted. Images are stored and transmitted electronically via a digital PACS system and a dictated report will be available to your provider within 24-48 hours.
   

• Copies of Your Images
  Patients have the right to acquire copies of their medical records. In order to preserve patient privacy, a valid HIPAA authorization must be completed and signed by the patient/guardian as well as a medical record release form. If you would like copies of your images to take with you, be sure to let the technologist know. Images can be transferred to a disc along with copies of your dictated report.
