Kiowa is located in south central Kansas and sits directly on the Kansas/Oklahoma border.  It is a farming community, primarily agriculture, but the oil industry makes its mark on the area.  Rural Kiowa, Kansas is an extremely safe and close knit community which makes it an inviting place to raise a family. Kiowa is a family oriented community, with 2 school buildings serving the Tri-City area (Kiowa, Hazelton & Hardtner).  Located on Main Street is the Pre-K through 6th school which has new windows and H-VAC system and rubber safety flooring throughout the playground.  The South Barber High school is located on the north side of town and hosts 7th through 12th grade.  The South Barber school district offers many sports and activities to keep the students active all year.  When school is not in session, the Kiowa Recreation Commission offers many activities at only $5 per participant, no try-outs necessary.

The city of Kiowa has something for everyone! Kiowa is the home of 7 Churches, 2 daycare centers, 2 fitness centers, 2 sets of tennis courts, an outdoor pool with free adult swim every M, W, and F, 2 baseball fields,  recycling center, Public Library, and much more.  The Chief Theater has brand new seating, as well as state of the art digital equipment and brings new release movies to town every weekend. Kiowa’s Borderline Theater is a community theater that performs 2 productions per year.

Kiowa has about 65 locally owned businesses, some of which include the Pharmacy, OK Co-Op Grain Co., a community owned Grocery Store and Hardware Store. Kiowa is also the home of KPAK the Quake radio station as well as 2 family owned restaurants that rival any large city establishments with cuisine ranging from steaks and burgers to pizza and Mexican food.

There are fun activities through the year as the creative residents of Kiowa invent new ways to stay busy and have fun, but some traditions have been carried on since the Great Depression era! Kiowa’s Pioneer Days, which is held every April, is a weekend of entertainment. Team roping, a parade with live cattle drive, skits, soccer, and dancing are just a few festivities to enjoy.  Kiowa also hosts an amazing Labor Day Celebration.  This holiday celebration promises enjoyment for all with volleyball, softball, and tennis tournaments, a classic car show, 5K run, free ham and bean feed and a carnival in the park!
